TruthSpeaks Definition:

The personal best a person can attain. The constant knowing there is a better way to achieve things short of perfection.

Explanation:

Are you naturally gifted or talented? If you are great. If not, no need to worry it is not needed to achieve excellence in any area. As John Maxwell says “talent is never enough”. You can dominate any market you want based on your ability to learn. But Marla “I hate to learn,”.  Sorry, my friends, the ONLY way to become excellent in any task is to consistently study and do the task. Here is the kicker, you decide the level of excellence you can achieve. You set the bar. See, excellence, as I defined above, is your personal best and only you can decide what that is. Seeking excellence is pushing yourself to the limit and beyond. It is setting a goal of 100 jumping jacks and doing one more or setting a goal to walk half a mile and you walk a whole mile. I often tell clients to apply the one more rule, which is to apply one more action to the goal they set. This my friends is excellence.

Talent is never enough: discover the choices that will take you beyond your talent / John C. Maxwell.

Weekly Action Plan:

Pick one goal you have been working on and do one extra step. Record your answers in your journal.

Development

Development

Business Dictionary Definition:
The systematic use of scientific and technical knowledge to meet specific objectives or requirements.

TruthSpeaks Definition:

Attained and consistent knowledge used to enhance the current state of a person or situation.

Explanation:

We have all heard the saying “Knowledge is power”. I have also heard “knowledge is nothing without application”. I agree with these sayings to a certain extent. Knowledge has to be used to develop; therefore it has to be applied in order for the process of development to manifest itself in your life. So the magical question is how does one develop? What do they do? What does a person really need to grow in their career? Well let’s dismantle what it takes to grow; the answer to this is… nothing, because you are going to grow regardless. Development is what we must seek in order to enhance our lives.  I have a three step method I use with clients for development. A.R.D. Access, Research, and Do. 1. Assess, where you are in life. Are you happy with your current career? Make a list of what you want to do 2. Once your list is made, now it is time to Research. I recommend reading books and asking people out for coffee who are already where you want to go. Bring a journal and take detailed notes. 3. Now it is time to Do. Develop an action plan of what you wrote in your journal and watch your career and life transform.

Weekly Action Plan:

Apply the A.R.D Method.  Journal your thoughts. I would love to hear your results. Email me at contact@truthspeakscoaching.com

Change

Business Dictionary Definition:
To make something different.

Read more: http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/change.html

TruthSpeaks Definition:
The action/movement of something whether someone initiates it or not

Explanation:
Have you heard the phrase “if you are not changing you are not growing?” This is a very true statement. Change is going to happen regardless if you initial it or not. So, my solution is to go with the flow. Take the “change” at face value. A very common change I work with in clients is dealing with being laid off (something I know all too well). Being laid off can be a blessing or a curse. It is all in how the person deals with it. I have read many stories about people who took their lay-off as a start to begin their entrepreneurial journey. On the flip side, I have read stories of people who almost lost it and had a nervous breakdown; the choice is yours. You decide how YOUR life will be lived. If you don’t like the “change” that recently happened, then YOU need to change the scenery. This is exactly what I did. I made some MAJOR changes in 2016 and I am not looking back. I did not say the “change” was easy but, I still moved forward. In essence, I changed my change.

Weekly Action Plan:
What change recently happened that you are dealing with? How are you handling it? How has it affected you? Do you like the change? If not why and how can you change what has been changed?  Journal your thoughts.

Belief/Believe

Belief/Believe

Business Dictionary Definition:
Assumptions and convictions that are held to be true, by an individual or a group, regarding concepts, events, people, and things.
Read more: http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/beliefs.html

TruthSpeaks Definition:
The assumption of what one thinks is real, regardless if it is or not.

Explanation:
If I tell you the sky is blue and your belief is that it is yellow, there is nothing I can do to change your belief. See, you control what you believe. In our work and personal environments, everything we see or experience is not always reality, it is whatever we believe. For example, when I was a processor the reality of having over 50 loans to process was insane. I believed I was the BEST processor therefore, I believed in my abilities to handle the work. I also knew what I could and could not handle and still produce a quality loan experience for the customer.  Therefore, I asked for help and was able to produce what I supposed to. See, I believed in myself to know what is too much (it can also be called self-awareness). I encourage you to guard your thoughts and truly believe in your capabilities. You are what you believe you are; you know what you can and won’t do. If you think you are a super rock star at work then you will grow to that level (if you are doing the job correctly, that is another blog post). Now go and adjust your beliefs about yourself.

Weekly Action Plan:
What is your personal belief system? This may include your values, mission, or vision statement in life. Remember you allow the thoughts to enter your brain about what you believe about yourself, this act forms your belief system.  Journal your thoughts.

Authentic

Hello Readers,

Welcome to the ABC's of professional and personal development, a new blog series. My hope is you can use this blog series as a guide in your life and career development. I want you to think about where you are in your life and career journey and evaluate. I want you to use the one “word” per week action plan to catapult your professional and personal development to a new level.

Here we go!

Week One

Authentic

Business Dictionary Definition:
Item verified to be genuine by certification or formal proof.
Retrieved from: http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/authentic.html

TruthSpeaks Definition:
One’s method of expressing real feelings and emotion; not driven by the surrounding environment (not being a chameleon).

Explanation:
You may think, what is Marla talking about? I have seen it over and over again, even within myself. People conform to the environment they dwell in and settle, this my friends is NOT being authentic. In 2016 I had to learn what being authentic meant. I realized we were all made for greatness however I can’t want the greatness people more than I want it for myself. I learned to express my real feelings. If I don’t like the outfit I change it. DO what makes you feel “real” about yourself. Don’t allow anyone to dictate your “realness”, only you know what that feels like. If you don’t like the scenery change the destination.

Weekly Action Plan:
Define your “realness”. What is being authentic look like for you? Once you discover it, walk in your “realness” all week, how about forever? Journal your thoughts.
