Preparation

Hello Readers,

People often ask me how do I prepare for my training classes or workshops. Below are 7 tips I stand by:

1. I very seldom rush in the mornings.
2. My clothes are ironed and prepared 2-3 days in advance for the work week.
3. I read my materials and practice daily up until time for the training.
4. I arrive to the training early enough to acclimate myself with the environment.
5. I have printouts and materials done 1-2 weeks in advance.
6. I conduct research on the audience I am teaching.
7. I pay attention to what I am saying to the learners. It is all about the learner not me.

There are many other prep tips I follow, these are the main ones. I heard a very thought provoking phrase earlier this month and it is for us to be "prepared for the prepared." Therefore these tips help me to do such. I hope they help you prepare for what is already ahead for you. Be prepared for the prepared. Preparation leads to success.

Are you hungry?

Hungry

I recently watched an interview of Tony Robbins. One of the questions that was asked was what separates those who are successful and those who are not. He stated "hungry". Since I love to do word searches, I sought to define the word hungry and here is what I discovered: strongly or eagerly desirous.  Informalaggressively ambitious or competitive, as from a need to overcome poverty or past defeat. Motivational speaker and entrepreneur Les Brown also speaks on the topic being hungry. Les states that "one has to be hungry to get what they want." I love his story about his hunger. Feel free to YouTube Les Brown’s videos. John Maxwell states “Often people wonder because they do not have the drive or ambition, they are not hungry for something to change in their lives.” You have to have a deep desire to possibly be the best you can be. Get hungry. Live life intentionally. Here is what I am hungry for: teaching, training, and educating people to be the best they can be by using simplistic methods. I know I can be the best at teaching, training, and coaching. I am also hungry to be the best Marla I can be. This means continual improvement and growth.

*Notice I said I can/could be the best at. No ego was involved. That is another blog post based on the book Good To Great by Jim Collins.

What are you hungry for? Look at the definition and ask yourself what are you eagerly desirous for?

Grow into it

Hello Readers,

In following my “One Word” for the year “Focus,” one area I am going to focus on is developing my craft. I have a niche, desire, passion, or some may say talent for training, coaching, and teaching. All of the mentioned areas have their differences in nature but they all involve one key important area and that is speaking. One area I am going to focus on is improving my speaking skills. I recently heard a quote that has stuck with me “Don’t settle for I am good at it; grow into it”. Wow! What a powerful concept. When I think about growing into something I think about when I was a little girl my mother would buy clothes that were slightly too big for me on purpose, she would always say I would grow into it. The article of clothing would be slightly big for a few months then eventually I would be able to fit it just right. What is your “it”, passion, or desire? What can you potentially be the best at? Grow into “it” until it fits you perfectly. Stay fit and in shape with what you desire and “it” will always fit who you are.

One of my "Focus" Statements: I will focus on growing into my speaking skills in 2016

What will you grow into this year?

One Word

Hello Readers,

Here we are, 2016 is here and in full effect. The main thing I am going to do this year is focus on One Word. I received this concept after reading the book by Job Gordon entitled One Word. Instead of making New Year’s Resolutions, the book teaches you to focus on the whole life approach of applying one word to ALL areas of your life. My word is “FOCUS”. I am going to focus on my life, relationship building, business and career. Don’t replace this with setting goals. Setting goals are still an essential part of personal development. Having one word to focus on will allow you to apply it to all your goals. For example, if I want to lose weight instead of saying I will lose ten pounds by 1/31, I will focus on eating better, working out, and creating a schedule to exercise, I will build goals based on those focuses. Kudos to Jon Gordon, Dan Britton, and Jimmy Page on such a great concept. Check out the One Word revolution here: http://getoneword.com/

Create your one word today and share your thoughts.
