What are you waiting on?

Hello readers,

I recently stepped out in faith for one of my MANY visions. I recently hosted my first annual women's empowerment conference. I have envisioned myself  hosting conferences because I attend them annually and the information I gain from the speakers is knowledgeable and applicable. I went to a conference earlier this year and said to myself "you know what Marla I can do that." So I started my journey. I had four dynamic speakers and nine vendors which resulted in people showing up. The support I had could not be explained. It was not a huge crowd however, it was a start. Now the buzz is out there and people are asking about next year's conference in which I am currently in the planning phase for. It is very exciting to have a vision and step out on it. I know one of my callings is to set a platform for women to speak and this is how I am going to achieve it.  Steve Harvey calls it  "taking a  leap." You have to take the jump. The worst that can happen is you fail and failing is only in the eye of the holder. So I ask, what do you need to take a leap of faith on? What is burning on the inside for you to do? I did not have all the answers but I did it anyway. I am looking forward to planning on making my women's conference one of the premier conferences here in my home town. How cool is that?

What do you need to take a leap of faith for? What are you waiting on?

Who believes in you?

Hello Readers,

I cannot believe is it July already! My birthday month. #JulyBabiesRock. Okay now that is out the way, I wanted to talk to you about having the right people in your corner. Back in my corporate America days I always sought advice from one of my close friends about career moves before I made them. To this day I am still close to that one particular friend and I still bring her up to speed with the many endeavors I am involved in.  As I matured in my relationships I have met many people who have kept me encouraged and have helped me to keep my vision at the forefront of my thinking. There have been times when I have gotten bored with the present because I was so excited about entering the future. Have you ever done that? I am sure we all have from time to time. This is the main reason of why having one or two friends to share your vision with is imperative. If you are married, make sure you are sharing your visions with your spouse of course. I have at minimum two friends I can share my crazy and insane ideas with and they thoroughly believe in me. Who are your two friends? Who has your back? Who will save you from you? Something to think about.

Do you have the Goal Setting Syndrome?

Hello Readers,

I have been reading multiple books on developing a five year plan. People such as Terri Savelle Foy and Brian Tracy are known in the areas of goal setting and living on purpose. Both of them teach on developing a five year plan. The question I have for you is the same question I had for myself, what is your 5 year plan? And to take it further are you building/adding on to the 5 year plan each year? Let’s be transparent, once you get to the 5 years, let’s say 2021, you should have another 5 year plan already in action. This is where I believe people get stuck. They develop a goal, achieve it, and then they are lost; they have not developed a 5 year plan each year. I call this the "goal setting syndrome." Here are 4 tips to help you to avoid the “goal setting syndrome”.

1. Set S.M.A.R.T. goals. See our free resource on our website under the resource tab.
2. Set a 5 year plan every year. As each year passes one year drops off and another year is added.
3. Constantly review your goals. Keep them before you at all times. If you need to make adjustments do so.
4. Be intentional, just because the goal is written, this does not mean it will happen. Ask yourself these two questions 1. What am I doing to ensure the goal happens? 2. What am I doing to ensure I am not becoming complacent? Keep It Moving (K.I.M.)

The "goal setting syndrome" can be avoided if these easy to follow tips are adhered to.

Do you dream?

Hello readers,

I heard this question asked at a conference I attended some time ago. I had to stop and really think about what the answer was for myself. In the days of thinking of the answer to this question, I read this quote “the problem is we set goals to low and hit them". I interpreted this as I am dreaming too small!!!. Wow, that was a wake-up call. So to answer the question, do I dream, yes I dream all the time, however I was not dreaming big enough. So I got a vision/dream book and started writing everything I wanted. I wrote out 101 things I wanted to do or accomplish. Many of these dreams I have no earthly idea how they are going to happen however it will not stop me from believing in my dreams. So now it is your turn. Are you dreaming? Or are you like me just not dreaming big enough? Start dreaming again, if you have stopped. Give yourself permission to dream. It is okay, they just may come true. Remember, you attract what you think about. Here are a few things I wrote from my list of 101:

1. Go zip lining
2. Cruise on Carnival's newest ship Vista
3. Teach/Train/Speak/ visit in all 50 states
4. Sponsor a women's conference
5. Host my own women's conference.

I believe these 5 alone will happen sooner than I think.

Share some of yours. Your thoughts are welcomed...

Are you hungry?

Hungry

I recently watched an interview of Tony Robbins. One of the questions that was asked was what separates those who are successful and those who are not. He stated "hungry". Since I love to do word searches, I sought to define the word hungry and here is what I discovered: strongly or eagerly desirous.  Informal, aggressively ambitious or competitive, as from a need to overcome poverty or past defeat. Motivational speaker and entrepreneur Les Brown also speaks on the topic being hungry. Les states that "one has to be hungry to get what they want." I love his story about his hunger. Feel free to YouTube Les Brown’s videos. John Maxwell states “Often people wonder because they do not have the drive or ambition, they are not hungry for something to change in their lives.” You have to have a deep desire to possibly be the best you can be. Get hungry. Live life intentionally. Here is what I am hungry for: teaching, training, and educating people to be the best they can be by using simplistic methods. I know I can be the best at teaching, training, and coaching. I am also hungry to be the best Marla I can be. This means continual improvement and growth.

*Notice I said I can/could be the best at. No ego was involved. That is another blog post based on the book Good To Great by Jim Collins.

What are you hungry for? Look at the definition and ask yourself what are you eagerly desirous for?

One Word

Hello Readers,

Here we are, 2016 is here and in full effect. The main thing I am going to do this year is focus on One Word. I received this concept after reading the book by Job Gordon entitled One Word. Instead of making New Year’s Resolutions, the book teaches you to focus on the whole life approach of applying one word to ALL areas of your life. My word is “FOCUS”. I am going to focus on my life, relationship building, business and career. Don’t replace this with setting goals. Setting goals are still an essential part of personal development. Having one word to focus on will allow you to apply it to all your goals. For example, if I want to lose weight instead of saying I will lose ten pounds by 1/31, I will focus on eating better, working out, and creating a schedule to exercise, I will build goals based on those focuses. Kudos to Jon Gordon, Dan Britton, and Jimmy Page on such a great concept. Check out the One Word revolution here: http://getoneword.com/

Create your one word today and share your thoughts.
