Hello
Readers,
I am not sure
why there is such debate on being a leader vs being a manager. They are NOT the
same however, a leader could be a manager, but not all managers are leaders. Here
are 5 reasons why:
A Leader demonstrates
while a Manger tells.
A Leader
teaches while a Manager oversees.
A Leader challenges
the status quo while a Manager follows what is told.
A Leader
knows the job function while a Manager knows of the job function.
A Leader has
and displays passion for the growth of others while a Manager considers evaluation
time a task.
This list is
not to bash managers; however, it can be used to reflect if the manager is
doing both tasks. As manager ask yourself are you demonstrating and telling,
are your teaching and overseeing, are you following what you are told and sometimes when needed challenging the status quo, can you perform the job function and describe it, and can you do the task of evaluation with passion and authentic care? All ten items can and should be done,
however if all ten are done consistently, the manager is certainly a leader. Remember the
saying “ One does not need a title to be a leader”, so start today!
Your
thoughts are welcome…
