Counsel

 Hello Readers,

I recently read a quote saying we cannot become successful by ourselves. I am a firm believer in this statement. A statement you can say to yourself that will kill your chances at success is "it is me against the world". Please STOP IT! It is not you against the world, because you need someone in this world to help you. I recently had lunch with someone and received sound wisdom. I am always seeking methods to speak to people and understand certain things in life. I truly understand that I do not know it all and I will never claim to. This is why seeking counsel is one of the wisest things you can do on your success journey. I am not saying to stop reading to discover things on your own; I am simply saying reach out for sound counsel. Do research on an area you need help in and email or call a contact for that area. The worst someone can say is no, and that is not likely to happen. So you may wonder what some of the sound wisdom I received was. I was advised to make sure I am making sound decisions and do not allow any situations to blur my view of what I want in life. What is a piece of sound counsel you have received lately? Feel free to share. It may help someone else.

DO IT!

Hello Readers,

I know it may sound crazy but…

Have you heard this phrase? Or have you said this phrase in pertaining to something you want? I recently had a conversation with one of my teammates (co-workers) and we were talking about things we love and want to do. My teammate mentioned “this may sound crazy but I really love to decorate”. I mentioned to her that does not sound crazy at all! In fact it sounds like something you should look into immediately! I encouraged her to do some research on it and get moving. Isn’t amazing when we want something, sometimes we are the first person to criticize our want or desire? Why is this? I know I have been guilty of this myself. If you have a desire to do something big or small, then by all means DO IT! I know this may sound cliche and I speak on it in many of my blogs, but I say why not. If you want to have many businesses, DO IT, if you want to have shelter for dogs DO IT, if you want to travel DO IT. I will only say this as a warning, make sure you are doing IT for you and not for anyone else. Your motive has to be pure. Otherwise DO IT and Keep It Moving! Start small and dream BIG! And do not say this is crazy. People who say they want to change the world, are the ones who succeed at doing so!

Five tips to have a successful team

Hello readers,

At some point in our lives we will be on or participate in a team. I have been on a number of teams in my life, whether it was a working team in the Navy, a team activity at work, or a sports team. I have noticed a trend in what makes a team successful. Below is my list of five tips for building a team:

1. Honesty- Leaders must be honest with themselves and their teams. Leaders cannot expect something they are not delivering themselves.
2. Delegate Properly- Give each team member assignments. Each member of the team has a job to do to make the team work. Think of the team as the human body, all parts need to function together to work at its full capacity.
3. Positive-negative-Positive- Speak in this manner when dealing with issues. Always mention the positive, then the issue, and lastly a positive.
4. Be a real human being- True leaders allow their team into their world. Authentic leaders talk about the baseball game with the kids or the vacation they took. Allow your team to see that you are not a robot.
5. Innovation- Leaders must continue to seek out new ideas to revamp the way things are done on the team. Invite the teams input and put their ideas into action.

Decisions

Hello Readers,

Have you ever had to make a very important decision and you knew the answer but it was not what you wanted to do? I had to recently make this type of decision. I knew it was the right thing to do but my emotions wanted something else. I knew if I followed my "emotions" the outcome would not be what I wanted. Here are 5 tips I learned in the process of making this decision and many others in my life:

1. Take your time. Do not rush the process.
2. Check your emotions and feelings at the door. Most of the time they are not real and they often lead to the wrong decision. Be of a sound mind.
3. That thing called your "gut", trust it. It is that deep feeling you have when you know you are right. It is called intuition.
4. Seek peace. If you have peace about the decision, then you are okay to proceed.
5. Always and I mean always seek wise counsel. No one does anything alone.

These tips I shared do not mean I get it right each time, we all make mistakes right? I am sharing what I learned in hopes it will help others and that is a good decision.
