Commencement Takeaways Part 1

Hello Readers,

Last weekend I graduated with my Masters Degree in Adult Education. It was a great honor to sit among so many others who have earned such a great achievement. The keynote speaker was actor, comedian, talk and radio show host, and author Steve Harvey. He mentioned some powerful takeaways. Here is part one of just a few takeaways I learned from his commencement speech. I know they will bless you:

1. A secret of wealthy people is they imagine what they want and they actually believe they will have it.
2. Be 100% whole. Money is not everything and cannot bring you happiness.
3. Do not let your degree just hang on the wall. Do something with it. Make an impact in your life and others.
4. If you only want out of life what you can accomplish you will limit the scope of what you can achieve.

Experiences

Hello Readers,

If you were to ask any of my friends and especially my husband they will tell you I love to be on the go. What exactly do I mean by “be on the go” you may ask?  I love to see and experience things. It could be a concert, shopping at a mall, a city, or an amusement park, the list can go on. Don't get me wrong I like material things as well, however nothing materialistic can ever replace an experience. Think about it, the experience your children will get when they go to Disney World the first time, nothing can top that. The experience your children will when they go to prom for the first time, nothing can top that. One experience I love to do is attend concerts in different cities. Yes I am one of those people who travel for concerts, why because I love the experience and because I want to. This is why there are so many lists published which say do these before you die? The authors of these various lists want the same thing I am asking of you. They want you to have experiences. Have you ever picked up one of these lists? I have my own and I do not call it a bucket list. My list is called the “list of things to do before I turn 120”. In 2015, I am knocking some of these tasks out. You may ask why? What is the big deal? Why go to a concert or why go to a soap making class (which I did in Jan of this year)? Again it is all about the experience. What experiences are you going to have for yourself, for your family, for your friends? How are you going to impact the world through different experiences in your life? Something to think about.

Attraction

Have you heard of people winning the lottery and within 3 years (as statistics say) lost it all? There is a cause to this problem and it is called the Law of Attraction. The law itself has nothing to do with how much money you make or the car you drive. Let me explain. The reason a person can win millions and lose it all is because of their daily activities. Let’s say person “A” who has not won the lottery focuses on paying off their bills and saving little by little on a daily basis, this daily thought process will enter the subconscious mind and the subconscious mind will take it as a task and start to steer the person in the direction of which choices they should make, hence attracting what it will take to pay off the bills and save with small steps over time. However, person “B” who won the lottery may have the same thought process but, the kicker is what they were focusing on before they won the money? What were their daily activities? Were they focusing their dreams in small steps or one lump sum (since they bought a lottery ticket)? Whatever thoughts/activities they were dwelling on will eventually creep back to the surface such as bigger house, give to family and friends, a nicer car, ect. Remember the difference is person “B” was not doing anything to achieve these items before the winnings and person “A” was. Once these thoughts have come to the surface the subconscious mind will work in overtime because the fact of the lottery winnings being present will speed the process up, resulting in  the money being spent in 3 years or less. The money did not change them; it just revealed who they really are. Person “A” followed the small steps rule and as you can see person “B” did not. Both examples attracted into their lives what they were already living. Winning the money either helped or didn’t. I have nothing against playing the lottery that is not the message here. The lesson to learn here is, you will  attract what you think about and what you think about is who you really are and it will come out sooner or later, so focus on the positive, good, and great because that is what we all should be aiming to be. Remember, who you attract represents who you really are.

Do you know yourself?

Hello Readers,

Each quarter or so I select a skill to work on to enhance my craft. If you have not noticed I love to learn and in return better myself. I am always working on me. Are you? (Just thought I would ask). For this quarter I have been reading on the topic of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and I wanted to share some insight with you. Here are three areas people who have a high EQ excel in:

1. Self- Awareness-The ability to look within yourself and truly understand how you are behaving at any given moment

2. Self- Motivation- The ability to excite/push oneself without the constant push from others

3. Self-Regulation- The ability to set rules for oneself and follow them and feel not guilty when the rules have changed. (Hint is you changed the rules)

Now you ask yourself, are you excelling in these areas? If not what can you do NOW to excel in these areas?

It is wisdom to know others; it is enlightenment to know one’s self –Lao-Tzu
