Recognizing Truth

Hello Readers,

I have a question for you. Have you ever been turned down for job that you knew you were perfectly qualified for? What did you do? Did you call the recruiter to inquire about any mistakes you can learn from (which I highly recommend doing)? Or did you reapply for the same job again because they must have made a mistake (yes people have done this many times over). The truth is you did NOT get the job; therefore, you need to ask what you can improve upon and Keep It Moving (K.I.M.)! Accept the truth that you were not hired and keep applying for jobs. Do not become stuck on what you “want” to be real but it really isn’t.  I recently had a moment of truth and let’s say it was a truth I should have recognized a long time ago but, I refused to because I wanted it to be what I imagined it could be. The ironic thing is I witness clients do this all the time. At times they do not see or better yet want to confront, what is in front of them concerning their careers and life, however I can see it bright as day. We all need someone who can stand on the outside of us and tell us what we do not see. Isn’t it amazing how we all need each other to help us as I stated last week?

Here are 3 tips to help you recognize truth:

1. Ask the opinion of people you REALLY trust. Your friends and family see things you can’t see which will impact your life and career.

2. If 2-3 total strangers tell you the same thing then it is the truth, believe it.

3. Do a weekly if not daily self-examination. Take time to think about why you do the things you do, believe me, there is a reason and you will find it only if are honest with yourself.

Treatment

Hello Readers,

I recently watched a very good movie which involved the treatment of other human beings. The movie showed how people are racially profiled not only for the color of their skin but for the clothes they wear or who they hang around. Also I recently read a story about how our First Lady Michelle Obama was treated by her roommate at Yale. Her roommate did not want to be in the same room as Michelle so the roommate called her mother to have Michelle moved to another room. Years later the mother of the roommate apologized for her behavior (I guess she never thought she would be the First Lady). I think this is the issue, that sometimes we as a people (the human race) do not think. We must be careful how we talk to others. Even I am guilty of it. We have to make a conscience effort to show love to one another and put aside our thoughts of negativity and look for the positive in all. Next time you want to view someone as different from you, it is OK because they are different from you. So treat them as you want to be treated. You never know who you are speaking to.

Time

Hello Readers,

These are things we should make time for in our lives:

Yourself
To think
To meditate
To read
To pray
To have fun
To relax
To vacate
To do nothing
To study
To learn
To serve
To observe
To be silent
To exercise
For others

We all have the same 24 hours in a day. How are you spending not managing your time? You cannot manage something that will move regardless of what you do. However, how you spend your time today will ultimately determine how you spend your tomorrow. Spend wisely.

Experiences

Hello Readers,

If you were to ask any of my friends and especially my husband they will tell you I love to be on the go. What exactly do I mean by “be on the go” you may ask?  I love to see and experience things. It could be a concert, shopping at a mall, a city, or an amusement park, the list can go on. Don't get me wrong I like material things as well, however nothing materialistic can ever replace an experience. Think about it, the experience your children will get when they go to Disney World the first time, nothing can top that. The experience your children will when they go to prom for the first time, nothing can top that. One experience I love to do is attend concerts in different cities. Yes I am one of those people who travel for concerts, why because I love the experience and because I want to. This is why there are so many lists published which say do these before you die? The authors of these various lists want the same thing I am asking of you. They want you to have experiences. Have you ever picked up one of these lists? I have my own and I do not call it a bucket list. My list is called the “list of things to do before I turn 120”. In 2015, I am knocking some of these tasks out. You may ask why? What is the big deal? Why go to a concert or why go to a soap making class (which I did in Jan of this year)? Again it is all about the experience. What experiences are you going to have for yourself, for your family, for your friends? How are you going to impact the world through different experiences in your life? Something to think about.

Do you know yourself?

Hello Readers,

Each quarter or so I select a skill to work on to enhance my craft. If you have not noticed I love to learn and in return better myself. I am always working on me. Are you? (Just thought I would ask). For this quarter I have been reading on the topic of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and I wanted to share some insight with you. Here are three areas people who have a high EQ excel in:

1. Self- Awareness-The ability to look within yourself and truly understand how you are behaving at any given moment

2. Self- Motivation- The ability to excite/push oneself without the constant push from others

3. Self-Regulation- The ability to set rules for oneself and follow them and feel not guilty when the rules have changed. (Hint is you changed the rules)

Now you ask yourself, are you excelling in these areas? If not what can you do NOW to excel in these areas?

It is wisdom to know others; it is enlightenment to know one’s self –Lao-Tzu
