7 Tips for Life Part 1

Hello Readers,

I just came back from a Women’s Conference in Atlanta, GA. and if you have been following me you know I love to pass on what I learned. Over the next few weeks I am going to share with you what I call “Tips for Life,” a four part series on practical tips anyone can use. The conference was full of dynamic speakers and they had much wisdom to share on leadership, personal development, career, and simply living the good life. I am going to share with you a mixture of what I learned in hopes that you gain from it and pass it along as well. Below is your first round of Tips for Life. The theme is personal and spiritual development. Enjoy:

7 Tips for Life Part 1

1. The way we think will guide and steer our life. Change your thoughts, change your life.
2. If you say you can’t then you won’t. Your mouth dictates your future.
3. Who told you, that you were not enough? You are enough!
4. Stop chasing trends, create your own.
5. Stop making excuses, you are where you are because you allowed yourself to be there.
6. Know your worth.
7. Learn how to refresh. Refresh means to fill up again and again.

These are some of the tips from one of the dynamic speakers at the conference, Toya Exnicious. Check her out and follow her on Twitter @MsTPrissy

Passion

Hello readers,

The other night my husband and I were having a conversation with our son about track and field. Track and field is a sport he is passionate about and wants to participate in for a lifetime. During this conversation we asked him to define the word passion. He mentioned something along the lines of strong desire. I pulled out my handy “smart phone” (how did we survive without them) and found this definition on Dictionary.com. It states passion is “any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling, as love or hate or a strong amorous feeling or desire; love; ardor”. Notice the words “powerful and strong”; these words explain the depth of passion and what it means. We explained to him passion means you eat, sleep, live, and dream about the one thing you want. If a person has a passion for anything they will read about it, learn it, study it, do it, practice it, and I think you get the picture. We asked our son does he exercise all of the previous mentioned. Now ask yourself what are you passionate about and what are you going to do about it.

Another goal accomplished!

Hello Readers,

Yes I have accomplished another goal! I have completed my first of many 5k races. I say this not to brag or boast but to encourage. I want to motivate readers all over the world that yes you can achieve what you want to achieve. I am a firm believer in this. Yes of course I was nervous and worried about coming in last, but the in the end all I cared about was finishing. So here is the key message, stop worrying about starting, just start! Get in motion. I put one foot in front of the other and before I knew it I was done! Some of the best advice I have ever received was get in motion and stay in motion. You will eventually finish the race and the great part about finishing one race is you can start another one. What is it you need to start? Write it down and get to it! Start and before you know it you will be done. Remember it is your life to live, so live it!

Do you know yourself?

Hello Readers,

Each quarter or so I select a skill to work on to enhance my craft. If you have not noticed I love to learn and in return better myself. I am always working on me. Are you? (Just thought I would ask). For this quarter I have been reading on the topic of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and I wanted to share some insight with you. Here are three areas people who have a high EQ excel in:

1. Self- Awareness-The ability to look within yourself and truly understand how you are behaving at any given moment

2. Self- Motivation- The ability to excite/push oneself without the constant push from others

3. Self-Regulation- The ability to set rules for oneself and follow them and feel not guilty when the rules have changed. (Hint is you changed the rules)

Now you ask yourself, are you excelling in these areas? If not what can you do NOW to excel in these areas?

It is wisdom to know others; it is enlightenment to know one’s self –Lao-Tzu
