Are you a hustler?

Hello Readers,

Here we go again with  “words.” As you know I love to define words and understand their proper usage. The question I have for you is: Are a hustler? Wait, before you answer, let’s discuss what a hustler is. I researched this word and discovered that “hustler” has many definitions. The main definition is “an enterprising person who is determined to succeed” (Dictionary.com). I found the word enterprising to be intriguing, so you guessed it I looked it up. An enterprising person is one who is ready to tackle major projects of importance, so let’s bring it all together. A hustler is a relentless determined person who will take on important tasks to get the job done. A hustler is innovative, creative, unashamed, and ready to work. Do you have these qualities? Are you willing to succeed? The next time you call yourself a hustler, ask yourself these questions. The answer is in your actions. Take the hustler test to see where you stand.

1. Am I ready to pursue my dreams regardless of my circumstances?
2. Am I going to keep going when I don’t see immediate results?
3. Am I going to press through until I get what I want because I believe in myself?

Are you a hustler? You are if you answered yes to all three questions, so go hustle!

Commencement Takeaways Part 1

Hello Readers,

Last weekend I graduated with my Masters Degree in Adult Education. It was a great honor to sit among so many others who have earned such a great achievement. The keynote speaker was actor, comedian, talk and radio show host, and author Steve Harvey. He mentioned some powerful takeaways. Here is part one of just a few takeaways I learned from his commencement speech. I know they will bless you:

1. A secret of wealthy people is they imagine what they want and they actually believe they will have it.
2. Be 100% whole. Money is not everything and cannot bring you happiness.
3. Do not let your degree just hang on the wall. Do something with it. Make an impact in your life and others.
4. If you only want out of life what you can accomplish you will limit the scope of what you can achieve.

What is hard work?

Hello Readers!

I often hear the phrase "it takes hard work to achieve success", keeping in mind that I create the definition of success to fit my needs. However, I wanted to define the word "hard" for myself. I wanted to know what exactly did people mean by "hard" and is it really applicable. An online definition states "requiring a great deal of endurance or effort" similar words mentioned were difficult, taxing, tiring, laboring, challenging, and pushing just to name a few. Next, I thought about my goals and things I want to accomplish in my life and I asked myself these questions such as: is becoming an author going to be taxing? Is earning a doctoral degree going to be difficult? Well... The answer is yes!!! See, I understand that nothing just drops on my lap. We have to go after what we want and desire and we ask will that be hard (taxing, difficult, and challenging)? Yes it will, but it is up to you. So are you working hard or hardly working? Not to be confused with working smarter. And yes there is a difference. We will discuss next week.

PUSH!

This title is something I have to do on a daily basis. Sometimes I have moments of distractions and it seems like I am going no where fast. It is those very moments I am reminded it is the work that no one sees that counts. It is all the books I read. It is the constant renewal of my self. All of these efforts to PUSH my self are producing a fruitful story to share with the world. Everyone has a story. The late great Steve Jobs said it best " do not waste your time living someone else's life". Below are 5 pointers to help you PUSH:

-Learn to master the mundane. In the mundane task lies the creativity.
-Grinding and mundane work are BORING! So what just do it.
-Grind and work while everyone else is sleep.
-Do not crave the success of others create your own story.
-Think about what other people may have gone through. You have NO idea what they faced to create their story. All we see are their results. They PUSHED. That is it!
