Stretch

Hello Readers,

It is May and as the old saying goes “this year is flying by quickly." A question I would like for you to ponder on is "Have been stretched this year?" According to Dictionary.com the definition of stretch is “to draw out or extend to the full length or extent." Wow! What a powerful definition. Have you extended yourself to your full extent? If so great, keep going, if not why? I have had to stretch quite a bit this year. I starting doing Periscope career tip videos weekly, I am speaking almost every weekend for various events and meetings, and my coaching clientele has picked up. I am grateful for these additions and all are great  for my career, which I am very passionate about. However, all of these additions have required me to step out of my comfort zone. These additions have required me to stretch myself. I believe 2016 is the year to get uncomfortable; it is time to take yourself to new heights. A quote I love is “success is one step outside of your comfort zone." Once you have been stretched you can never go back. Once you have seen what you can accomplish you will want more. It is a great feeling.

Have you been stretching?

7 Tips for Life Part 2

Hello Readers,

Did you enjoy last week’s Tips for Life? If so, great. Let’s move into this week’s tips from another dynamic speaker at the women’s conference named Terry Savelle Foy. Follow Terri on Twitter @terrisavellefoy. The theme is personal development.

Enjoy this week’s tips:

7 Tips for Life Part 2

1. Everything begins when you decide to take 100% responsibility of your life.
2. We are rewarded in public for what we do in private.
3. The only person you are competing with is yourself.
4. Develop routine in your life. You cannot have a vision without routine.
5. Work harder on yourself than on your job – Jim Rohn (One of my personal favorites)
6. You will never leave where you are until you can see where you want to be.
7. Give yourself permission to dream. Successful people dream and imagine the success, then they make it happen.

I am personally taking action in my life to apply these tips, will you?

Personal Development costs what?!

Hello Readers,

How much did you spend on personal development in 2015? Wait before you answer this question. Let’s think about the vacations we took last year or the movies we went to see. How much did those cost on average? I’ve heard the average American spends $2-5K on vacations or more and $300-500 a year in going to the movies. Now answer the question, how much did you spend on books, coaching, career development, conferences, schooling, certificates, educational dvds and/or cds? Some of these mentioned can cost and upwards of 10K or more. I am not suggesting that you spend 10K on personal development in one year (even though that is not a bad idea); however I am suggesting that you set aside some monies to attend a conference, buy 10 books, or invest a life or career coach. If you do not have the cash now it is okay, just save the money, the same way you are saving for that Disney Cruise. I am not suggesting anything that I have not done or currently implementing in my own life. I am a big fan of personal development. My husband and I have purposed to set aside money each month just for personal development. After all growth coupled with development is what leads to success.

Don’t say these words

Hello readers,

I have noticed in my readings of successful people (by successful I mean whole individuals in all areas of life, not just in financial) that they speak a certain language. There are certain phrases or words you will NOT hear them say. Let’s take a look at some of them:

1. I can’t
2. This is not in my job description
3. We have never done it this way before
4. This is a dumb question but…
5. I will not need your help
6. I have learned all I need to know
7. Thanks but no thanks
8. Well that’s not fair
9. When will it be my turn?
10. I do not read

Are you guilty of saying any of these phrases? I know I have been in the past, but after a mindset change I stopped. If you are guilty, then STOP! Figure out a way to turn them around. Such as instead of saying I can’t, say I will. Remember your words have power and you are what you speak.

Ten Habits of a Successful Person

 Hello Readers,

I recently spoke on this at an event. Here are some tips to live on:

1.  Read 30min-hour a day. Read anything… Reading stimulates the brain.
2. Have a daily routine. There is power in a routine lifestyle
3. Have fun. Relax. Family time is a must.  Act like a child, it is okay. We are all big adult kids.
4. Schedule quiet time to think. Meditate. Be alone. Daydream. Pray.
5. If you work, make sure it's a job that's fulfilling. Use your skills wisely. Do not let them go to waste.
6. Spend money on memories, not material things. Create life experiences. Go to a concert, play, or an amusement park.
7. Take care of yourself (Very important) without this one, the others do not exist.
8. Get involved with something. Pay it forward. Volunteer.
9. Take chances. What do you have to lose? Do not be afraid of failure. Van Gogh only sold one painting.
10. Live life to the fullest. Live out loud!
