Plans, Time, & Interruptions

If you knew me personally you would agree I am a planner. I carry my agenda with me everywhere and yes it is a paper agenda. I tried keeping my agenda on my phone for a while but I did not like it. I guess I am old school; there is nothing like writing down your plans and scratching them off. I read recently that it does something to the brain when you have scratched off items your to do list, simply put it makes you happy. I must agree. I mentioned my agenda because I wanted to share with you that I have learned to respect the power of time. Time cannot be managed, stopped, or adhered to. It is going to move regardless of what you think or do. Because I now fully understand this, I have learned to live in the “now”. Sure I make my plans daily and for the most part I stick to them. But, I have a new found respect for interruptions. I have learned that interruptions are okay. It is not the end of the world. Interruptions can actually bring you peace. So next time you are working on your list and you get interrupted, just let life flow, whatever you were doing will get done. This is a phrase I say to myself when I get pressured “It will get done”, and then I have peace and then I K.I.M. (Keep It Moving).

10 Reasons You Need Goals in Life

Hello Everyone!

I am a very goal-driven person. I set goals for myself, achieve them, and then set more. Why you may ask? Because I believe there is more. I believe everyone can reach for the sky and live out their wildest dreams. The sad truth is most people do not even lift their arm to reach for the sky, they are waiting on someone else to lift their arm for them and that is simply NOT going to happen. Goals provide you the roadmap to success and the best part is you design the roadmap and you define your success. It is all up to YOU! Below is my list of why people need to set goals for themselves.

1. Goals provide you with direction.
2. Goals are your pathways to success and getting what you want in life.
3. Goals are plans. Those who fail to plan, plan to fail.
4. Goals are easy to set. Just start writing what you want.
5. Goals keep you determined and motivated.
6. Goals keep you focused and driven.
7. Goals can be changed at any time. NO need to overwhelm yourself.
8. Goals are plural. You can have many at one time and accomplish them all.
9. Goals are never ending. Just keep setting more!
10. Goals allow you to K.I.M. Keep It Moving®

Gratitude

I have spoken on this topic in past entries however; I have come across the topic of gratitude in my recent reading times. Everything I pick up whether it's a book or magazine in the doctor’s office the article speaks about being grateful. Seeing the word “gratitude” really had me thinking about the mystery of life and how it really is a great journey if we allow it to be. As adults we are busy items such as cooking, cleaning, personal development, school, kids, work, spouses, elderly or sick parents, finances, spiritual growth, and the list could go on. Somehow as adults we seem to find what is wrong in those areas I mentioned. Have we ever stopped to think about the gratefulness in those areas? What are you grateful for concerning your kids? What about your career? Gratitude does not mean you are settling for less or that you are not worth more, it just simply means you are enjoying the ride on your way to where you are going. Gratitude means you are thankful for what you have now as you continue to gain more.

Let me ask you this. Do you have a couch? TV? Washcloths? How about a bottle of water? These are items we do not think about on a daily basis, yet someone somewhere in this world or even country wishes they were in your shoes. Today do yourself a favor, look at your family, look at your co-workers, look at your house, car, and food in the fridge and simply have gratitude. Gratitude just like attitude is a choice.

Your thoughts welcome…

To Train or not...

Training is one of if not the most important factors for companies and organizations. I believe more organizations are realizing that a well-trained employee turns into a loyal and engaged employee. So what is the real definition of training? Being a training professional I have read many versions of definitions. One definition I like is from Business Dictionary.com because it is simple, it states training is a “Organized activity aimed at imparting information and/or instructions to improve the recipient's performance or to help him or her attain a required level of knowledge or skill”. I would like to add the Truth Speaks definition, “Training is a developed schedule of adult education events/activities designed to introduce, enhance, and transfer learning”. Like I said I like simple.

Let’s look at some training platforms from a couple of companies. Disney requires that each employee go through the same training before going into their hired position. Disney believes that all roles need to understand each other. In addition the employees are called Cast Members; the difference is they are either on stage or off stage (pretty neat). Another example is CSX Conductor training; each newly hired conductor undergoes a rigorous 6-8 months of training before starting the actual role. These are just two of many companies that understand the value of training and that the return on investment (ROI) can be great. These companies value their employees and want the best for them; it is evident from their training platforms.

How is the training at your company? Please let us know your thoughts...
