Just GO!

Hello Readers,

As many of you know I read and subscribe to Success Magazine. If you are not a subscriber I highly recommend you subscribe. One way to grow in your career and life is to read about how others do it on a daily basis. There is no “magic potion” to success, you have to earn it. I heard a very interesting phrase on the Success CD, it stated “be your own prince charming.” I agree with Nely Galan as she stated this profound statement. (If you do not know who Nely Galan is, check out http://www.success.com/). The same is true as it is for the “magic potion,” there is no prince charming coming to whisk you off your feet and take you into success land. I believe that some people think that if they just work a 9-5 and do nothing towards their dreams they will just magically appear or maybe the prince charming will come along and give them their hearts desires. Sorry, it does not work that way, if it did everyone would be where they want to be in life. There are a few steps we must take to get to where we want to be. I will just discuss the most important one which is to just make a decision already! This is sometimes the hardest step; this is why I encourage people to just GO! Just do it. Whatever that “it” may be. Do you want to write the book? Start an online business? Do online videos on YouTube? Just GO! You have something you can teach others. Nothing happens unless you start. I had to start coaching to see if I liked it. I had to start writing to see if it was something I really wanted to do. These were in my heart to do and I just made a decision. Here is the big kicker. If you start and decide you do not want to do it anymore, then you can stop, yes it really is that simple. Be your own prince charming. Do not wait for someone or something to give you a big break, just get in motion. Just GO, I promise you something will click for you.

Here are some steps to get you started:

1. Write on a sheet of paper what you would do for free to service . (Remember everything thing we do is for other people)
2. You can read all the books you want but no one will tell you how to define success, you have to define it for yourself. What is success to you? Write it down. (Remember this is your life story, be proud to write it)
3. Get started researching. What can you do in the next 30 days to achieve what you wrote in step #1? This is not rocket science. Just GO!

Do you DREAD Mondays?

Hello Readers,

Do you dread Mondays? Do you hate when the weekend is over? I would say “hate” is strong word; however, I have wished that I had an extra day from the weekend. Have you?  I have never dreaded Mondays and I personally do not see a reason to. Here’s why, I believe it is all about preparation. Do you prepare for the week? I prepare for the week over the weekend by making a list of what I need to do. For example, I prepare my meals for the week; iron my clothes for Monday-Wednesday if not the whole week, and I write out my tasks and goals that I need to achieve. If you are still dreading Mondays after you have prepared, then you need ask yourself what are you “dreading” and why? Is it because you are on a job you do not like? When I speak to clients this is the main reason the “dread” has over powered them. My suggestion is change your mind set by getting in action. Start applying for new jobs, start writing the book, just start. Prepare yourself for the prepared and you will never have to “dread” another Monday again. When you are prepared you will have high expectations of what can happen on Mondays instead of dreading them.

Who believes in you?

Hello Readers,

I cannot believe is it July already! My birthday month. #JulyBabiesRock. Okay now that is out the way, I wanted to talk to you about having the right people in your corner. Back in my corporate America days I always sought advice from one of my close friends about career moves before I made them. To this day I am still close to that one particular friend and I still bring her up to speed with the many endeavors I am involved in.  As I matured in my relationships I have met many people who have kept me encouraged and have helped me to keep my vision at the forefront of my thinking. There have been times when I have gotten bored with the present because I was so excited about entering the future. Have you ever done that? I am sure we all have from time to time. This is the main reason of why having one or two friends to share your vision with is imperative. If you are married, make sure you are sharing your visions with your spouse of course. I have at minimum two friends I can share my crazy and insane ideas with and they thoroughly believe in me. Who are your two friends? Who has your back? Who will save you from you? Something to think about.

Do not lose focus of your vision!

Hello Readers,

I hope you have been enjoying the Leadership Series. I will share more of what I learned from some great leaders in the coming weeks. Today I want to talk to you about having a vision for your career. Are you in a job/career you HATE? Many of my clients are, hence why they come to me for career coaching. The question I ask my clients is what can you do on your job currently to enhance your vision of where you want to go? Let’s look at an example of this. I was in a rut recently thinking about all the things I need to do, in other words I was thinking about my present concerns and I took my eyes off the future. I know what my long term goals are and I have a vision that is bigger than myself (as your vision is supposed to be larger than life). However, in my thinking I got off track, (yes even a coach needs a coach). I had to speak to my coach and some friends to get back on track. I had to realize that where I am now is a stepping stone to where I want to be. I have to take this step to get to the next. I encourage you to master the step you are on now, and then move to the next step. Each step you take will take you close to your vision, which is the end goal. Don't lose focus. Distractions will come just keep your eyes on the prize.

What is your vision? Watch this week’s Career Tip of the Week: Vision, Get One.
